ARTIST STATEMENT

Birdsong is studio research using materials in alternate ways for creative outcomes. For this work I have taken cues from my home environment in the Noosa Hinterland for inspiration; in particular from the local birdcalls notably the repetitive song from the Brown Cuckoo Dove. The singular monotone call by this bird (maybe not liked by most) has provided creative focus for this artwork suggesting to me a narrative of ‘difference’. It is hoped that elements of compassion and acceptance are experienced with this context of difference in mind, especially during these challenging times.
